Which cars can be exported from Korea in 2026: export restrictions
The Republic of Korea has restricted direct car exports to Russia. Banned are:
- since 2023 — cars priced over $50,000;
- since February 2024 — cars with an engine displacement of 2.0 L (2,000 cc) or more, regardless of price or age.
In practice this means: cars with engines up to 2.0 L and priced up to $50,000 can be legally exported directly from Korea. This covers most of the popular Hyundai and Kia models — and they also turn out to be the most cost-effective for customs clearance. We don't use "grey" export schemes through third countries: Korean customs actively cracks down on them, and it's not worth risking a client's money.

LPG cars from Korea: factory gas equipment and cheap running costs
A separate specialty of the Korean market is gas-powered cars with factory-installed LPG equipment (LPi). Since 2019, such cars have been available for purchase by any private individual in Korea, so the selection is large:
- Hyundai Sonata 2.0 LPi — 146 hp, 1,999 cc;
- Kia K5 2.0 LPi — 146 hp, 1,999 cc;
- Renault Korea QM6 2.0 LPe — 140 hp, a crossover with factory gas equipment.
Advantages: gas costs noticeably less than petrol, the engines are designed for LPG from the start, and the factory gas equipment is listed in the manufacturer's documents — no separate conversion paperwork is needed in Russia. By displacement (up to 2,000 cc) and power (up to 160 hp), such cars clear both the Korean export filter and the reduced recycling fee. An important nuance: many LPG cars from Korea are former taxis or rental cars — we screen them out using insurance records and mileage.
Cars from Korea up to 160 hp — why this is the best deal in 2026
The key factor for savings in 2026 is engine power up to 160 hp. It's what determines the size of the recycling fee.
Since December 1, 2025 (Russian Government Decree No. 1713 of 01.11.2025), the reduced recycling fee for individuals has been kept only for cars up to 160 hp imported for personal use:

Important: the reduced rate applies only if the conditions are met — the car is imported for personal use, no more than one per person per year, and it cannot be resold within 1 year of import (otherwise the fee is recalculated at the commercial rate). The reduced rates for individuals are locked in through 2030.
Customs clearance for cars from Korea in Russia: duty, fee, recycling fee
Customs processes cars from Korea under the general EAEU rules — most often in Vladivostok, at the port of arrival. An individual pays three mandatory charges:
- Customs duty — at a unified rate (EEC Council Decision No. 107 of 20.12.2017). Depends on engine size, age and value of the car. For combustion-engine cars and factory-LPG cars imported by an individual, VAT and excise tax are not paid separately — they're included in the unified rate.
- Customs fee for processing the declaration — a fixed amount on a scale, depending on the car's value.
- Recycling fee — at the reduced rate for cars up to 160 hp, or the commercial rate above 160 hp.
Which age is more cost-effective? "Sweet spot" cars aged 3–5 years are optimal — the duty on them is calculated from engine size at a reduced rate: for a common Korean 1.6 engine (1,598 cc) that's around €4,000 (1,598 cc × €2.5/cc). For new cars from Korea (under 3 years), the duty is calculated from the car's value and usually comes out higher — we can bring in a new car too, but the calculation will show the difference. The customs clearance price for a car from Korea consists of all three payments — we lock in the exact amount in the estimate before the deal.
